Overview
I started this project back in march, 1998 when the mas3507d was available from intermetal.

The idea was to build a player that should not need any "normal" pc to function. Nor should it need any kind of software for which a fee had to be paid.

A last goal was to integrate the contents of the player in a standard hifi-case, so that one could put the player into its standard hifi rack.

All these wishes could be archieved but that took about nine months.

On the right, you can see an early stage of the developlement when only some redundant keyboard was ready as well as the first connection between the cdrom drive and the microcontroller. What is missing on the photo is are the ide-interface for the drive as well as the mpeg decoder board. These compoments were integrated on separate boards.

This still shows some very early stage of the development (about mid 1998)

The Prototype

used hardware
development tools
ported software
putting it all together

The Desgin
processor
interface for cdrom/filesystem
the mpeg decoder chip
display

The Board
why use a smd processor?
rom/ram
why use to print boards?

The Future
why not record
a new filesystem
why should I want to connect the player with my computer?
copying from/to portable cdplayer
why hire me as a developer ;-)
